Cognitive Rehabilitation & Counselling
As a Registered Clinical Counsellor, Dr. Heike Dumke provides evidence-based cognitive rehabilitation therapy and counselling support to help individuals understand, improve, and manage changes in thinking, attention, memory, and daily functioning. She supports individuals navigating cognitive changes arising from acquired brain injury (including concussion), as well as those resulting from cancer treatment, neurological conditions, and other cognitive challenges. She also provides support for caregivers.

a) Cognitive Rehabilitation Therapy
Support for memory, attention, and thinking difficulties related to brain injury, medical conditions, or cognitive changes, with a focus on improving daily functioning and supporting a return to everyday life. b) Acquired Brain Injury Support
Rehabilitation-focused support for individuals that includes addressing cognitive and functional changes following acquired brain injury, with emphasis on improving daily functioning and supporting return to everyday life. Following this link, you’ll find information on how Dr. Heike supports people who have suffered an acquired brain injury utilizing cognitive rehabilitation therapy and brain injury counselling in a safe, compassionate, and non-judgmental environment.
c) Concussion Support
Support for individuals experiencing ongoing symptoms after concussion, including difficulties with attention, mental clarity, cognitive endurance issues and fatigue, and overwhelm—helping you gradually return to daily activities, work, and life. Following this link, you’ll find information about concussion and how Dr. Heike can support you if you have been diagnosed with a post-concussion syndrome (persistent symptoms), concussion, or mild traumatic brain injury, and are not eligible to access other supports [e.g. in Vancouver, BC, Canada, head injury rehabilitation programs are offered through WorkSafeBC, while ICBC has begun a similar pilot program, and GF Strong is offering the Early Response Concussion Service (ERCS)].
d) Ageing and Memory Concerns
Support for individuals noticing changes in memory or thinking as they age, including concerns about cognitive decline or dementia worry. This service focuses on understanding cognitive changes, maintaining confidence, supporting brain health, and continuing to live fully and independently. In addition, you’ll find information on how to support your brain’s health, how to optimize your cognitive aging process.
e) Physical Injury Rehabilitation Support
Rehabilitation-focused support for individuals who have experienced a physical injury. Recovery from physical injury is not only a physical process. Conditions such as motor vehicle accidents, orthopedic injuries, surgery, or chronic pain often affect how we think, feel, and function in daily life. f) Caregiver Counselling & Support
Dr. Heike provides caregiver counselling to people who care for family members with dementia-related and other debilitating conditions. Caregiver counselling includes support for navigating the emotional and practical challenges of caring for someone with cognitive changes, while maintaining their own wellbeing and balance in daily life. g) Cancer Treatment Recovery
Support for individuals experiencing symptoms such as “brain fog” after cancer treatment, including challenges with memory, attention, mental fatigue, emotional adjustment, and confidence in daily functioning. Dr. Heike provides cognitive rehabilitation and counselling support to help you understand these changes, develop effective strategies, regain clarity, and re-engage in meaningful daily life.
